The NPBC listens to the needs of organisations and try to respond to them in the best way we can through a number of projects and initiatives.
The NPBC raises funds through the Commercial Litigators’ Forum so that we can deliver projects that support organisations and charities enabling pro bono.
We make it easier for charities to find more lawyers to offer their time by hosting frequently updated details of volunteering opportunities that need filling on our searchable website.
As a hub for many organisations that rely on pro bono volunteers, we help with any networking or collaboration you need. We make introductions to our wide range of contacts and provide ideas on how to cultivate partnerships that may help you to work more efficiently.
Our strategy for 2025 – 2027 gives a clear overview of our purpose, our priorities and how we achieve those through projects and activities.
In an age when a large number of networking and second-tier organisations have disappeared, the NFJ provides a rare opportunity to link with other sector players.

I have derived so much support from the organisers of PBW, for which I am most grateful. The support has been practical…and I have been inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of the organisers and other contributors. I believe the greatest strength, though, is in the reach of PBW - it is an excellent focus that allows a diverse community to come together, whose members might otherwise have laboured on in isolation, achieving less than they can do together.
Feedback from Pro Bono Week 2022
Many pro bono cases involve a lawyer coming to the urgent aid of an individual who is suffering because they cannot access justice. Sometimes, however, lawyers commit help to an organisation on a longer-term basis. This is an exceptional illustration of the latter.
When local shopkeeper Derek* discovered that Fatima*, an elderly woman, was desperately trying to help her family emigrate to the UK from Afghanistan, he persuaded her that he could help them be granted an entrepreneurial visa if they invested in his business. Fatima believed him.
It is not only seasoned lawyers who can take on pro bono cases. Law students are keen to help vulnerable clients and gain valuable legal experience by volunteering and being supervised by qualified lawyers.
