Now in its 22nd year, Pro Bono Week offers an opportunity to recognise and support the voluntary contribution made by the legal profession across the UK in giving free legal help to those in need. Law firms, chambers, legal societies, charities, in-house lawyers, law schools and universities are encouraged to plan comms and events, both internal or external. It is also an opportunity to publish reports or launch new initiatives to an engaged pro bono audience.
With a new theme every year, the NPBC works closely with national and regional organisations to fund coordination and planning of central events and other activities.
Many in the legal sector are encouraged to host their own events and campaigns through the provision of logistical guidance, materials and advice on communications and media in the lead up to and throughout the week.
Feedback reporting on the success of events and communications is gathered and analysed so that future campaign weeks can learn from previous activities.
I have derived so much support from the organisers of PBW, for which I am most grateful. The support has been practical…and I have been inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of the organisers and other contributors. I believe the greatest strength, though, is in the reach of PBW - it is an excellent focus that allows a diverse community to come together, whose members might otherwise have laboured on in isolation, achieving less than they can do together.
