Social Media Guidance

The National Pro Bono Centre (NPBC) uses social media to connect with individuals, organisations, and communities working to improve access to justice and support pro bono legal work.

We value open, respectful dialogue and encourage you to engage with us online – but we ask you to please take a moment to review our social media guidelines before participating.

Important note

We do not offer legal advice via our social media channels. If you need legal advice, we may signpost you to an appropriate organisation, but we cannot provide legal assistance ourselves.

Guidelines for engaging with us

Please do:

  • Follow the terms of use of the relevant social media platform.
  • Post only content you’re comfortable sharing publicly.
  • Use respectful, inclusive, and appropriate language.
  • Engage constructively with us and other users.

 Please don’t:

  • Share personal or sensitive information (e.g. phone numbers, addresses, legal case details).
  • Post anything unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, obscene, or otherwise harmful.
  • Bully, harass, or intimidate individuals or organisations.
  • Spam our channels or post repeated, disruptive messages (“trolling”).
  • Use our platforms to promote or advertise unrelated products or services.
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity.

 Moderation and House Rules

We reserve the right to hide, delete, or report content that breaches these guidelines.

We may block, mute, or report users who

  • Repeatedly break our house rules.
  • Use offensive usernames or profile pictures.
  • Post content that could compromise the safety or dignity of others.

We aim to create a safe and respectful online space. Inappropriate or harmful content will not be tolerated.

Monitoring and Responding

Our social media accounts are monitored regularly, but please note that many NPBC staff work part-time.

We read all messages and respond where appropriate, but we may not be able to reply to every message individually.

Likes, Shares and Follows

We may follow, like, or share posts from individuals or organisations we believe are relevant to our mission. However:

  • We cannot respond to every follow or share request.
  • A like, follow, or share does not imply endorsement or formal partnership.

Safeguarding and Accessibility

We are committed to maintaining an accessible and safe environment for everyone. If you require content in an alternative format or need to raise a safeguarding concern, please contact us directly.

If You See Something That Doesn’t Seem Right

If you come across content on our social media channels that you believe violates this guidance or the platform’s terms of service, please report it to us at:admin@nationalprobonocentre.org.uk

Policy Updates

This guidance may be updated periodically. We recommend checking back to stay informed about any changes.
