Charity governance Lawyer The Mozartists (formerly Classical Opera)

  • London or remote

The Mozartists are one of the leading exponents in the works of Mozart and his contemporaries. Our mission is to present benchmark historically informed classical music performances and recordings and to provide performance, training and mentoring opportunities for young artists of outstanding ability as well as outreach music workshops to schools in deprived areas or those who cannot afford music lessons.

The charity was established over 25 years ago using a standard set of Articles of Association and Memorandum in use at that time. There have been changes to charity law and Charity Commission guidance since then, reflected in more recent charity Articles and we would like to update ours. For example, the wording relating to board meetings, trustee payments and dissolution are areas where our Articles could be updated.

Some of the changes are regulated alterations and require permission from The Charity Commission before a change is approved and filed. We require a lawyer to help update our Articles in line with modern standards and guide us on the process of getting these changes approved by our Board, the Charity Commission and Companies House.  We also need to make a small change relating to our Objects as the company has evolved.

The Charity Commission may take 1-2 months to process requests.  This should not be a huge job, but our ideal candidate would support us over several months and have the relevant expertise and patience to see this through.  They would provide advice via email/telephone/online and complete the process from start to finish including handling correspondence with the Charity Commission.
