The University of Leeds Legal Advice Clinics facilitate the provision of free legal advice, on a face-to-face basis, to people within the local community. This service is already provided by solicitors and barristers working on a pro bono basis, assisted by University of Leeds Law students, and we are keen to expand our service. Our current clinics cover family and employment law and we also have a small business clinic. We’re seeking more volunteers to assist with those, but are also keen to hear from lawyers with expertise in any area of law. We are very flexible regarding time commitments.
All of the administration related to the clinics is performed by a co-ordinator within the School of Law – appointed by the School specifically for this purpose – and our current practitioner volunteers tell us they greatly enjoy working on the clinics. Not only do they use their valuable professional skills and knowledge to support vulnerable individuals, but they also contribute to the personal and academic development of Law students.
