International pro bono: working with peers in developing countries to improve the rule of law

There is a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise on the rule of law within the UK legal sector. How can this be shared with counterparts overseas and what can the UK usefully learn from other contexts?

As part of national pro bono week, ROLE UK will convene a panel discussion highlighting ways in which UK legal experts are working with counterparts in developing countries to strengthen the rule of law through a peer-to-peer learning approach. The event is an opportunity to learn more about this type of international pro bono work and to contribute to ongoing learning and debate around its value, effectiveness and challenges.

Edgar Cahn is known as the founder of the Timebanking movement; he has had a distinguished career in the USA as a civil rights lawyer, was instrumental in developing the first Federal Legal Aid programme, and has been pioneer in clinical legal education. Taking part is easy, all you need to do is register and we'll send you a bake pack full of materials including posters, labels and stickers. Get a group of friends and colleagues together and organise a bake sale in your office or university and sell your tasty treats. The official bake week will take place between the 12 - 16th February with a main focus on Tuesday 13th.
